The Peruvian Nazca Lines are not particularly remarkable from the ground.

According to archaeologists, the pre-Inca Nazca culture created the hundreds of enormous shapes, which range from geometric lines to intricate depictions of animals, plants, and imaginary figures, over 2,000 years ago.
They did this by simply removing the red surface pebbles to reveal the lighter earth beneath in designs of their choosing.
The reason behind their actions is still unknown, leading conspiracy theorists to conjecture about extraterrestrial visits and prehistoric astrology.
Archaeologists believe that the lines were more likely a ceremonial means of contact with the Nazca deities.
