🌞 Bill Gates is backing the first high-altitude experiment of one radical approach called solar geoengineering. It's meant to mimic the effects of a giant volcanic eruption. Thousands of planes would fly at high altitudes, spraying millions of tons of particles around the planet to create a massive chemical cloud that would cool the surface.

"Modeling studies have found that it could reduce the intensity of heat waves, for instance, apparently it could reduce the rate of sea level rise. It could reduce the intensity of tropical storms," said Andy Parker, project director at the Solar Radiation Management Governance Initiative.

The technology is not far from being ready and it's affordable, but it could cause massive changes in regional weather patterns and eradicate blue sky.

On 5 May, a new effusive sequence commenced within the northern pit crater, notably marked by a robust thermal signature detected in the Landsat 8-9 satellite image. The lava, resulting from a new magma batch, commenced to spill out from the sizable hornito, travelling towards the north. The molten lava seems to have extended beyond the northern rim of the northern pit crater, forming the lava sheet flow.

Meanwhile, a new lava arm started to advance southward approaching the western caldera rim. See the attached Sentinel-2 satellite image from 7 May. The lava has been oozing out from the particular hornito in the northern crater.

Bernard Junior Polite allegedly attempted to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany as he was delivering a sermon at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church around 1 p.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police, WTAE reported.

“I started to begin to preach and all of a sudden, from my left-hand side, I saw him move from the back to the front of the church, and he set up in the front corner of the church and smiled at me,” Germany said. “All of a sudden, I just saw a gun pointing right at me. And at that point, all I could try to do is run for cover.”

Polite’s gun appeared to jam when he approached Germany and attempted to fire, live-stream video of the church’s service shows. Multiple church members rushed to the pastor’s defense as he distanced himself from the 26-year-old suspect, who was tackled and disarmed by one man attending the service, according to the outlet.

The pastor praised the man who jumped to his defense, telling WTAE that he was a “hero” who “sacrificed himself.”

“He could have lost his life in that struggle. But he sacrificed himself for everyone, and he’s the hero,” Germany said.

Polite told police that he tried to shoot Germany because “God told him to do it” and he wanted to go to jail, according to the criminal complaint obtained by WTAE.

❖ The Miracle of Holy Fire (or Holy Light) is the most important ritual in Christianity and it happens year after year in the Tomb of Christ, inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

It is an annual celebration of Christ's victory over death and Jesus himself participates.

Thousands of Christians throng Jerusalem for the traditional Holy Fire rite ahead of the Orthodox Easter, despite a security clampdown in the holy city.

Every Orthodox Holy Saturday in Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre, thousands gather to witness a flame “miraculously” appearing in the tomb of Jesus.

Orthodox Christians believe it’s a potent symbol of the resurrection.

It’s the Church's most important miracle. And it’s believed to have been happening annually for the past 1,200 years.

The ritual begins with the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem (or another Orthodox archbishop), descending into the empty tomb of Christ within the church and reciting special prayers. A non-Orthodox Christian is also said to examine the edicule (a small structure surrounding the tomb) to make sure no oil lamps have been left burning inside that the patriarch could use to light his candles.

In the crowded church above the tomb and surrounding the edicule, the faithful chant with one voice “Kyrie eleison” (Lord, have mercy). The wait might be long or short but eventually a light is said to appear in the tomb where the patriarch has been praying alone. He then lights his candles from this miraculous flame and, accompanied by the pealing of bells, emerges to spread the fire among the crowd. The oncedark church becomes illuminated by the miraculous Holy Fire.

It is said that for the first several minutes the fire burns, but does not consume. During this time, many of the faithful bathe their faces and hands in the flame, apparently without being harmed. The flame is passed from candle to candle and then placed in lanterns so that it can be spread far and wide.

✞ The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has maintained a quiet presence in Jerusalem for more than 1,500 years, with some people claiming that there has been an Ethiopian delegacy in the Holy Land ever since the famed meeting of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon some 3,000 years ago.

For many centuries, the center of the Ethiopian Church in Jerusalem was a small courtyard with several structures behind the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Christian Quarter of the Old City. Today, however, the Church has to a large extent relocated outside the walls to the western city. The move began in the 19th century, when a succession of powerful Ethiopian monarchs decided to establish a strong presence outside Africa. In 1888, Ethiopian Emperor Yohanes bought a large plot of land and began construction of a new church and monastery. The complex eventually lent its name to the road on which it is situated - Ethiopia Street.

The new church is an impressive structure in a secluded courtyard, built in the circular style reminiscent of other Ethiopian churches. The complex is usually a haven of tranquillity in the heart of downtown Jerusalem, but during Easter things pick up, and it is recommended to visit and witness the lively services. Remember to take off your shoes at the entrance as this is a requirement of the Ethiopian rite.

In Ethiopia, Good Friday is known locally as Siklet which translates to Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a day of fasting, intense prayer and prostrations.

Followers of Ethiopian Orthodox Churches share the religious tradition with other Orthodox Churches. In Ethiopia, churches outside the Ethiopian Orthodox Church including Catholic celebrate the good Friday along with the Ethiopian Church.

Good Friday is the holiday that Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was crucified for the salvation of human race. He was beaten hard, spited on and dragged with a robe all the way through to Calvary.

After His capture betrayed by Judas on Thursday eve subsequent to His prayer in Gethsemane, the Jews took Him and started their torture. Early morning on this Holy Friday, Lord Jesus Christ was brought to trial in front of the Jewish leader Pilate. Convicted for a crime He did not commit, Lord Jesus was tortured and tormented until He reached to the Calvary for crucifixion. Upon it was revealed miracles including the darkening of the sun, the bleeding of the moon and the falling of the stars whilst Lord Jesus Christ separated His divine soul from His body at the ninth hour. Then after, Joseph and Nicodimus took His holy body and buried it.

✞ A chapter in one of the Prayer books (The Passion of Cross or Himamat Meskel) of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church teaches us the following very important lesson:

“They did not know, but I was crucified and reigned over the righteous and the martyrs, so the Jews who saw those 7 miracles being done, were called Christians because they said that it could only be a God of nature who is showing us these miracles, and if He was not a God of nature, such miracles would not have been done.„

✞ Three days after Coptic Christians in southern Minya Governorate were attacked over “rumors” of plans for a new church, Muslim extremists upset over a permit to construct a church building on Friday (April 26) attacked Copts in another village.

Muslim extremists attacked Coptic Christians in the village of Al-Kom Al-Ahmar on Friday (April 26) after learning that an evangelical church had obtained a permit to construct a church building, according to advocacy group Copts United.

“The security forces moved to the village, and the situation was brought under control and a number of the perpetrators were being arrested,” the group reported. “One of the village’s Copts said that the evangelical church in the village obtained an official building permit, which angered a number of extremists.”

On Tuesday (April 23) in southern Minya Governorate, angry residents beat Coptic Christians and torched their homes in Al-Fawakher village, of the city of Samalut, over rumors that a church building was to be constructed there, according to Northern Africa News (nan.media)

The assailants tried to drive Copts from their homes, the outlet reported.

Bishop Makarios of Minya wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that initially the assailants prevented people from fleeing the violence. He later posted that security forces deployed to the village restored calm and arrested a large number of suspects.

Copts United reported that security forces arrived late to the site.

“The extremists attacked Coptic homes with stones and chants, and a number of homes were set on fire, amid the screams of women and children,” the group reported. “The attack continued for a long time before the security forces arrived.”

Advocacy group Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), however, reported that police and firefighters, led by the deputy governor and the head of the police department in Minya, acted quickly to contain the situation.

The police were arresting perpetrators, including those who spread rumors online about plans to construct a church, according to CSW.

Separately, CSW reported, the Egyptian government issued a memorandum designating May 5 and 6, a Sunday and a Monday, as bank holidays for Labor Day, which falls on 1 May. The move outraged the Coptic Orthodox community, which celebrates Orthodox Easter Sunday on May 5.

“Coptic activists suggested to CSW that the move may be intended to appease Egypt’s Salafi Muslim community, who consider recognizing Easter to be sinful, as it defies the mainstream Islamic doctrine which denies Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection,” CSW stated.

Brand says many returning to Christianity as world crumbles

Actor and comedian Russell Brand announced Friday that he is going to be baptized this weekend, the culmination of his months-long public wrestling with the tenets of Christianity.

"This Sunday, I'm taking the plunge," Brand, 48, said in a video he posted to X. "I'm getting baptized."

Brand said he had heard baptism explained to him as "an opportunity to die and be reborn; an opportunity to leave the past behind and be reborn in Christ's name like it says in Galatians — that you can live as an enlightened and awakened person."

He also referenced what he suggested were non-Christian reflections on the same theme of embracing death for the sake of life, quoting Stoic philosopher and Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and the Buddha.
"All of these things seem so inviting and beautiful," he said.
Brand also suggested that increasing numbers are turning back to Christianity as the empty value system of modernity disintegrates and leaves them wanting more.

"I know a lot of people are sort of cynical about the increasing interest in Christianity and the return to God, but to me, it's obvious," he said. "As meaning deteriorates in the modern world, as our value systems and institutions crumble, all of us become increasingly aware that there is this eerily familiar awakening and beckoning figure that we've all known all of our lives, within us and around us. And for me, it's very exciting."
Brand added that he intends to get baptized in the heavily polluted River Thames, joking that he might be also getting baptized in toxoplasmosis and E. coli.

"I may be leaving behind the sins, but I might be picking up some pretty serious viruses," he said.

Brand's baptism comes after other videos he has been making in recent months about his spiritual journey to the Christian faith.

In December, he told followers he was reading the Bible and The Problem of Pain, a 1940 book by C.S. Lewis that explores the role of suffering in the Christian life.

In January, he noted that he was reading Rick Warren's The Purpose-Driven Life, and that he desired a "personal relationship with God" as he found Jesus Christ increasingly important as he grows older, despite once seeing many churches as either too "old-fashioned" or too modernized.
"The reason I wear a cross is because Christianity and, in particular, the figure of Christ, are, it seems to me, inevitably becoming more important as I become more familiar with suffering, purpose, self, and not-self," he said at the time.

In March, he posted a video explaining that he had been visiting churches of various denominations with the intention of possibly getting baptized, and asked his followers their opinions on the sacrament.

Minden, Iowa, under curfew until further notice.

One person remained hospitalized but stable late Friday with injuries sustained in a tornado that hours earlier devastated the town of Minden, which will remain closed to anyone but residents until further notice.

“Due to the hazardous conditions, only residents of Minden will be granted access at this time,” the Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Agency said in a release overnight, which also declared a state of emergency overnight.

The EMA declaration came hours after Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds had issued a disaster proclamation for Pottawattamie County after multiple tornadoes tore through the county causing significant damage to nearly everything in their path.

Some homes had been pull off their foundations, torn apart from the ground. Damage was particularly expansive on the east side of Minden. The EMA said in their release that about 120 homes and businesses had sustained varying degrees of damage, and that utilities in the area had been disrupted.

✞ Armenian organizations were outraged by President Joe Biden’s Armenian Remembrance Day statement on Wednesday because he did not mention modern genocide against Armenian Christians of the Nagorno-Karabakh region completed this year by the conquering armies of Muslim Azerbaijan.

Some Armenian American leaders accused Biden of actively supporting the Azerbaijani conquest, while others said he used Armenian Remembrance Day as a convenient excuse to avoid mentioning it. Armenians and their supporters marched outside the White House on Wednesday to demand “justice” for both the 1915 and 2023 genocides:

Armenian Remembrance Day is commemorated on April 24 each year, the date considered by historians to mark the beginning of Meds Yeghern, the Armenian genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

April 24 was the day Ottoman officials arrested hundreds of prominent Armenians and forced them into exile. Armenians living in Turkey had an uneasy relationship with the government, which feared they might launch a separatist movement. Angered by their humiliation at the hands of Christian armies in the First Balkan War of 1912-13, Turkish nationalists turned their fury against the Armenian Christian minority, coming to view the Armenians as a seditious population colluding with European powers to bring the Ottoman Empire down.

The exile of Armenian intellectuals was soon followed by a mass deportation of Armenians from Turkey – which degenerated from ethnic cleansing into genocide when Turkish troops began massacring the Armenian refugees and herding them into concentration camps. At least 1.5 million Armenians were killed, of an estimated 2 million living in the Ottoman Empire, and some historians believe the full death count was much higher. Amid the insane bloodletting of the First World War, the Armenian death march offered a chilling preview of the horrors to come in the Second World War.

On Armenian Remembrance Day 2024, Istanbul officials banned a ceremony to commemorate the genocide, having found the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic a convenient excuse to prohibit the ceremony from 2020 onward.

Biden, however, did use the word “genocide” in his statement on Armenian Remembrance Day in 2021. The political situation in Turkey had shifted somewhat by then, so Erdogan’s displeasure was much more muted than it was in 2019, although he did vow to “defend the truth against the lie of the so-called ‘Armenian genocide.’”

Biden referred to Meds Yeghern as “the Armenian genocide” again in his statement on Wednesday, saluted “the resilience of the Armenian people,” and said the Armenian diaspora has “strengthened the fabric of nations around the world.”

What made the statement controversial was that Biden had nothing to say about Azerbaijan’s brutal ethnic cleansing of Armenian Christians from Nagorno-Karabakh, a contested region that has sparked several clashes and one recent war between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

♱ April 19, 2015: A horrific video posted on social media in appeared to show ISIS Muslims beheading 34 Ethiopian Christians on a beach.

The video, in which militants call Christians "crusaders" who are out to kill Muslims, showed about 15 men being beheaded on a beach and another group of the same size, in an area of shrubland, being shot in the head.

Both groups of men are referred to in a subtitle as "worshipers of The Cross belonging to the hostile Ethiopian church".

God bless everyone of these Christians.. all refused to convert to the cult of death.. and all were murdered for their faith.

♱ Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. delivered a powerful pro-Artsakh message yesterday in a statement and video shared live with Armenian Americans gathered at the White House for a protest demanding justice for the Armenian Genocide, organized by the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF).

Kennedy delivered a videotaped address on Armenian Remembrance Day to the demonstrators in which he called for tough U.S. sanctions against Azerbaijan, denounced the Azeris for taking Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh “hostage,” and demanded a right of return for all of the Armenian refugees forced from the region in 2023.

“Though today we commemorate the 109th anniversary of the beginning of the Armenian Genocide, the plight of the Armenians is not over – and we must recommit ourselves to end the ethnic cleansing and defend Armenians’ right to self-determination,” Kennedy said.

The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) said Biden was “shamefully silent” about the conquest of Artsakh, which the committee referred to as “genocide.” Worse, it said this genocide was a crime Biden “actively armed and morally emboldened.”

“He’s using remembrance of a past genocide (by Turkey) to cover up a current genocide (by Azerbaijan),” ANCA charged.

The ANCA gave Biden only tepid praise for recognizing the Armenian Genocide in 2021 because he only did so “after Armenians worldwide, after decades of work, got the ball to the one yard line – via both house of Congress, all 50 states, countless municipalities, and multiple NATO allies.”

“It’s not that Biden was a bystander to Azerbaijan’s genocide of Artsakh’s Christian Armenians. He was an upstander – but on the side of genocide. He armed and emboldened Azerbaijan as it systematically blockaded, terrorized & ethnically cleansed indigenous, innocent civilians,” the group said.

ANCA’s program director for Washington DC, Alex Galitsky, credited Biden for being “the first President to recognize the Armenian Genocide” but said that made it all the more outrageous that just one day before that landmark recognition, Biden “reauthorized military aid to Azerbaijan – a decision that would embolden Baku’s genocidal regime.”

Galitsky said Biden “recognized one genocide only to enable another.” He also accused Biden of turning a “blind eye” to Azerbaijan’s punishing blockade of the Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh before the final attack began. The blockade caused a massive humanitarian crisis and was denounced by some observers as an attempt to use “starvation as a means of genocide”

Galitsky was also unsparing in his criticism of Biden’s predecessor, and possible successor, Donald Trump for sending “millions in military aid to Azerbaijan before the 2020 Artsakh War.” He expressed a preference for dark-horse candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. as “the only candidate calling for accountability for Azerbaijan’s genocide of Artsakh.”

Biden did indeed keep money flowing to Azerbaijan, even after it fought a war against Armenia.
