Celtic Legacy performing at the Taunus Metal Festival, Oberursel, Germany. An almost complete concert from April 6th 2024.

Legacy had intended on filming the entire performance and editing shots together later to support an upcoming single release. However, after the show it was immediately obvious that none of the footage was usable. In order to salvage something, the band asked for alternative footage from people who were in attendance in an attempt to piece as much of the show together as possible as a keepsake. This, coupled with the below par camera footage from front of house enabled us to get about 75% of the show. However, the audio quality cannot be improved upon. It was never intended to use the audio from show in the video in any case as it was going to be synced to a studio recording.

What we are left with is raw footage, raw in every way. This, plus the 10 minute video diary is a nice souvenir for both the band and festival organisers.

Next time we'll have the camera issue nailed and tested properly.

Enjoy! 🤘

In 2024 Celtic Legacy will be releasing a deluxe version of Resurrection in a 3-CD set. One of those CDs will be a reconstructed version of the album. One of the problems we had in re-releasing the album is that the original multi track recordings were erased several years ago. However, with technology having moved on we are able to reconstruct the album by splitting the drums and vocals out of the original mix and re-recording the guitars and bass. This is a quick show and tell to give you an idea of what's involved in the process.

Apologies for the birds chattering away in the background. 😉

The opening 10 minutes of Celtic Legacy's 2015 album, The Lie of the Land, featuring the intro Awakening and the title track itself with lyrics.

Unlike previous albums, we decided to move away from the myths and battle stories of yore and construct the songs around more contemporary themes. Religion, mental health, isolation, the inevitability of change and of course, politics are all explored on the album. And we even wrote a tribute to Gary Moore which became one of the most popular tracks.

The title track, The Lie of the Land is a comment on the clowns that are elected into positions of power and who subsequently make life changing decisions that affect everything we do. The ones in Ireland are an exceptional bunch of incompetent, money grabbing liars who feather their own nests while telling us to tighten our belts. Like all politicians, lies and deceit are the norm, but the Irish ones are a breed apart.

But hey if you feel differently then that's cool too. We're only making a comment. Just enjoy the video and the music.

Track taken from the album Guardian Of Eternity. Footage from both studio and live shows interspersed with still shots of the band onstage.

In January 2015 Celtic Legacy released its first album since 2008's Guardian of Eternity. This was the trailer we published to give fans a taster of what was to come.

Featuring over 57 minutes of new Celtic Legacy material, this album has been worked on for three and a half years and marks a return to the early Celtic Legacy sound, while updating the lyrical content to more contemporary themes.

The Lie of the Land is limited to only 250 physical copies. The band will NOT be pressing further copies.

The album is available in digital format through all online stores including iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.

Celtic Legacy performing Resurrection at Rudesheim, Germany, June 11 2004. As soon as this song started the heaven's opened. This is recently discovered footage which is the only complete document of the Resurrection line-up performing this track. This line-up played its final show the following evening in Bad Homburg and split exactly one month later. It would take nearly 3 years to form another stable line-up. Resurrection was a crowd favourite and would continue to be performed by subsequent line-ups at every show until 2009.

A rare filmed performance of Celtic Legacy covering Thin Lizzy's Emerald from the very earliest days of the band. This show was performed on June 21st 1998 as the Dublin launch for the first album which had been released a few weeks earlier. The venue chosen was Dublin's Mean Fiddler.

Although the venue had been booked weeks in advance, the infamous Celtic Legacy bad luck struck when drummer Phil McEvoy developed a perforated stomach ulcer 48 hours before the concert and had to be rushed to hospital. Former Stomp drummer and old friend, Dezzie Joy stepped in at the last minute to deputise and the concert went ahead without any rehearsals for him to familiarise himself properly with the band's original material. The only alternative would have been to cancel the gig and lose the money we'd already paid out in advance to hire the venue. So Dezzie saved our asses.

Dezzie had to be coached on-stage as he was playing the songs and although there were some occasional errors, he came through with flying colours. But as a result of Phil's absence, the showcase the band had planned couldn't be properly performed as band members were restricted from being free to play to the rehearsed standard while they did their best to ensure the band got from song to song without too many obvious errors. The show also features Italian guitarist Alessio Roic's only performance with the band.

A mid-summer night's dream? Not really, but not a mid-summer night's nightmare either.

Line up:
Dave Morrissey: Guitars
Tommy Branagan: Vocals
Dave Boylan: Bass & Vocals
Dezzie Joy: Drums
Alessio Roic: Guitar

A version of Child In Time recorded as a tribute to the life of Jon Lord.

Two life long fans from different parts of the world got together over the internet to record a version of perhaps Jon Lord's most recognised song in time for the second anniversary of his passing. Both musicians recorded their parts without having met and only having communicated by email. Vocalist Madis Arro is a well known voice in his home country of Estonia while Dave Morrissey is a founder member of Irish band Celtic Legacy.

Some thought was briefly given to adding an orchestral backing under the vocals in much the same way as Jon had done when playing the song in his latter days, but in the end we thought it best to stick to the good old original hard rockin' style. And in true Purple fashion, a few bars of at least one another song make their way into the arrangement.

We hope you enjoy this version of Child In Time as much as we hope Jon does too wherever he is.

From the album 'The Lie of the Land'.

A song written in tribute to the late, great Gary Moore. Gary was an influence on Celtic Legacy from day one.

Well he left us too soon, now the thunder is gone.
But the echoes will still carry on,
Forever eternal in song.
