For this next Super Metroid VARIA Randomizer seed, Link's A Link To The Past incarnation duplicates himself, forms a totem pole with the two of them, and travels to Planet Zebes for a series of sidequests. 15 missions are listed, with only 3 requiring completion. Despite only needing to complete 20% of the objectives, the door and boss randomizations made it a longer task than expected.

This weekend on Sunday Longplay, I'm playing an N64 game from my childhood that I've wanted to play on this channel for a long time but am just now getting around to. Welcome to Diddy Kong Racing!
Diddy Kong Racing was one of three 5th-generation kart racers that had a fierce rivalry with each other, the other two being Mario Kart 64 (also on N64, which I should get around to playing as well), and Crash Team Racing (on Playstation, which I've played a remake of on this channel previously). Of the three, Diddy Kong Racing was the first to use multiple different vehicles with a hovercraft and an airplane in addition to the standard kart. The Mario Kart series wouldn't introduce the concepts of flying and water driving until Mario Kart 7.
Another thing that both Diddy Kong Racing and Crash Team Racing did that Mario Kart still hasn't done to this day is have an Adventure mode as its main game mode, with collectibles and bosses. Mario Kart DS had boss fights in its Missions mode, but that's really more of a side mode. In Diddy Kong Racing's adventure mode, you collect golden balloons which you need to unlock new races in four different worlds. Each world has four races, a boss race, a battle challenge, and a Trophy Race grand prix. Winning a race gets you a golden balloon, and winning all four unlocks the boss race. Beat the boss, and you unlock the world's Silver Coin Challenge where you have to collect all 8 silver coins on the track and win at the same time. This will net you another gold balloon and doing it for all 4 races in the world will unlock a harder second race against the boss. Beating the boss again will give you a piece of the Wizpig Amulet which, when fully assembled, will allow access to the first race against the final boss. Getting the amulet piece will also unlock that world's Trophy Race, which is a grand prix of all four races in the world in a row, with Mario Kart-style scoring. Getting a gold trophy in all four worlds will unlock a bonus fift..

The rapid-fire lesser-clearing Grizzco Blaster, the turfing, lesser-clearing Grizzco Brella, the instant long-range Grizzco Charger, the armor-piercing Flyfish-swatting Grizzco Slosher, the point-blank destroyer and vertical area-covering Grizzco Stringer, the explosive 9-dodge-roll Grizzco Dualies, and the king of one-shots, the Grizzco Splatana are all making a comeback! I tried for 999 again like I did last time on Jammin' Salmon Junction, but I got stuck in limbo in the 800s (high 880), so I gave up around that point.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the newest member of my randomizer rotation: the Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest Randomizer! This randomizer shuffles all items in the game around (including Oak Stakes) by default, but also has other options like an enemy randomizer, a town/mansion randomizer, a door randomizer, custom character sprites, and also some difficulty modifiers. Instead of using alphanumeric sequences of characters to label different seeds, this one mashes four words together to create sometimes humorous phrases. If you want to play a specific seed that I'm playing in these videos, copy the video title into the "Randomizer Seed" section on the website and remove the spaces.

After getting powerful new weapons for Xena and Annie from some newly-added superboss encounters, it's now time to tackle the final dungeon! Many powerful enemies lurk within, most of which you can't run away from, and in this case I ended up running out of heal potions right before the rematch with Tiamat and had to go back to restock for a second attempt.
This hack essentially does to FF1 on the NES that Final Fantasy 4 Ultima did to FF4, bringing you a fresh, tougher Final Fantasy with greater depth and tactics. There are numerous creative deviations and system overhauls, though care has been taken to ensure the game still “feels like FF”.
Along with the game you will find a comprehensive guide and maps valuable to any new adventurer. Think of them as your replacement for the original paper charts which came with the NES cartridge back in the day.

It's Thursday, which means time for more Team Battles in F-Zero 99. Here, I had an amazing team comeback on Mute City 1 and had a narrow win on Mirror Red Canyon 1!
In Team Battle, the 99 racers are divided into two teams: the Green Team and the Pink Team. Here, finishing in 1st place is only part of the battle. There are four different ways to score for your team in this mode. You score Spin Points by simply hitting players on the enemy team with your Spin Attack. You score KO Points by delivering the killing blow on an enemy player (the max energy bonus from KOs applies to all members of your team in this mode). You score Bumper Points by getting a Lucky Bumper after getting KO'd and bumping into enemy racers (so you can still help your team from the grave). You score Lap Points depending on your current position at the end of each lap (obviously the higher your position the more points you score). After the race, the total scores in all four categories for each team are added together, and the team with the highest combined score is the winner.

It's Friday, which means it's time to go oldschool with some Classic SNES F-Zero-style races! Here, I smoked my old PB on Classic Port Town 2 with my first 2:08 run, as well as a new best lap on Classic Red Canyon 2.
Classic Mode is a mode for only 20 players that replicates the rules and style of the OG F-Zero on SNES. This means no Spin Attack, no Skyway, only one boost per lap after the first, no energy expansions from KOs, and narrower tracks in a 4:3 aspect ratio. 12 tracks are available for this mode, including all 8 tracks from the normal race pool and all 4 tracks from the Pro Tracks pool. The only tracks you can't play in this mode are the Grand Prix Finales (Silence, White Land 2, Fire Field), though they are now available randomly in Classic Mini Prix events. With this mode comes unlockable customizations for your pilot card, including badges for winning 1st place in a Classic race and for finishing a Classic race on all 12 tracks, and a border modeled after an SNES cartridge for playing Classic mode 25 times.

After getting the Lazuli Sword (this hack's version of Excalibur), I explore a couple of newly-added bonus areas in the ocean before heading to the endgame. On the map, there are two locations in the water that weren't there in the original game, both in the sea: a whirlpool and a sunken ship. The whirlpool contains an even stronger sword than the Lazuli Sword, the Gamma Sword. However, it's guarded by a brand-new superboss: the Archon Dragon! It's highly resistant to status effects, but Annie and Terra were able to stun and poison it with their weapons. To put into perspective how much HP the Archon Dragon has, each turn of poison only takes off a small fraction of your HP, and the Archon Dragon suffers 851 HP each turn! It can also heal itself with Cure 3, take (potentially all) your party members out of play for a few turns with Sleep 2, hit your entire party with Blaze, Ice 3, and Ultima, has Dispel to remove your elemental resistances, has poisonous physical attacks, and comes with 3 Ire enemies as backup to immediately buff it at the start of the battle! Move over, Warmech!
The sunken ship doesn't have a superboss quite like that, but it does have 3 deadly boss fights. The first two boss encounters are against Phantoms (either 1 or 2 at a time, normally only encountered as the first miniboss in the final dungeon), and the third boss encounter guarding the chest at the end is against a team of a Killy and a Healer. All of these bosses have attacks that can instantly kill you, so be very careful. The treasure is a Force Shield.
After that, we go back to the Citadel of Trials to fight two more Killy/Healer combo bosses that we weren't strong enough to fight the first time we were there. These encounters guard 60,000G and the Aurora Arrows for your Ranger hero.

It's Pro Tracks Tuesday today, so let's take the fight back to the toughest courses in the galaxy once more! Here I improved my PB on Mirror Death Wind 2 by a full second, had a nice clean double pass at the very end of Red Canyon 2 for the win, and came within less than a second of a new PB on Mirror White Land 1 twice.

After slaying the last of the Four Fiends and making the last of the four crystals shine once more, I got back into the Floating Castle to get some treasures I missed, and then take the Lapis Lazuli I find there to the dwarves to get a new sword!
This hack essentially does to FF1 on the NES that Final Fantasy 4 Ultima did to FF4, bringing you a fresh, tougher Final Fantasy with greater depth and tactics. There are numerous creative deviations and system overhauls, though care has been taken to ensure the game still “feels like FF”.
Along with the game you will find a comprehensive guide and maps valuable to any new adventurer. Think of them as your replacement for the original paper charts which came with the NES cartridge back in the day.

Another Splatfest is upon us! The last Splatfest of Fresh Season 2024 doesn't have a lame theme this time! This time it's another apocalypse-themed Splatfest that asks what you would do if you found out the world was about to end. Hi, I'm MetalSmasher, and gaming has been a lifelong passion of mine, ever since the NES came out around the time I was born. And with the passion of video games comes the passion of recording video game walkthroughs and helping others through trouble spots. My parents bought our first NES for themselves around the time my brother was in kindergarten and I was just born, but as we grew up, we got sucked into it as well, and the rest is history.
This channel will mainly focus on the nostalgia of the golden age of gaming, but I will go into the modern era as well to show off all eras of gaming as much as possible. I will also spice things up by doing self-imposed challenges, and playing random online matches with viewers, friends, and just randoms.
Videos will be uploaded every day. One main series on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, another main series on Tuesdays and Thursdays, a one-off on Sundays, and random videos of whatever I feel like on Saturdays!
