Badiarov Plays Bach - Cello Suite no.3 - Sarabande; Violoncello da spalla. But... it's not about me, the instrument or my playing (I am not a musician, I am the author of Da Spalla, luthier of this instrument, speaker... It is not even about Bach. It's about helping you - a great violinist - to become even greater.

Look. The easiest way an ordinary violinist can become extraordinary is to simply add that little extra before ordinary. I am not suggesting that you are not extraordinary as you are, without adding anything. But...

You may have noticed that many violinists not only want to make music but also to live better lives while being full-time musicians. The issue is, there are millions of violinists competing for the same few lucrative spots under the sun. Why is this an issue?

This is an issue because music lovers and employers might find it difficult to discover that you even exist. And when they do find you, they might find it difficult to justify paying you well when countless other musicians are willing to do the same great job for less.

The easiest way, therefore, is to offer that little extra. The da spalla has proven to be one of the most effective keys to opening the door that many violinists want to open but can't.

Why is it effective?

Because intelligent people understand this: without musicians like you, there is no such thing as culture. Here is the proof: Mendelssohn revived the general public's interest in the music of J.S. Bach. Today we take Bach for granted. Casals revived the public's interest in the Cello Suites. Today we take them for granted. You could be that extraordinary musician bringing back the instrument of choice for Bach and countless other musicians at a time when music had a much richer variety of options.

Are you ready to transform your life? As a world-class violinist, you already have all the technique you need to play this instrument. You might be arguing, "I am not a world-class violinist." Well, if that's you, I h..

Heads of Strings at colleges of music or conservatories, cellists, violinists, violists, and pro-culture audiences know that for centuries, the cello and music were not standardized, allowing for much more diversity and freedom of expression in the past—the sort of culture people like us appreciate. In this video, you can hear author, violin maker, and speaker Dmitry Badiarov play on an instrument he made for a client.

But... can such a big instrument be played? Will it break the player's arm, or back, or neck? This is a common question from musicians who have never seen this instrument in their lives.

Let's find out.

In this video you are watching J.S. Bach, Cello Suite No. 3, in C, Prelude, recorded on Thursday, the 23rd of May, 2024, LIVE in Delft by the author, speaker and luthier Dmitry Badiarov.

The violoncello is an Italian instrument that was born in the early 17th century in Italy. Initially, it was a rather large instrument, although even then, it was sometimes played by violinists held on the shoulder. In the second half of the 18th century, a number of much smaller varieties of this instrument were invented. Today, we call it the violoncello da spalla, based on some historical documents using this term. However, composers—who frequently were also violin and/or viola players—never called it violoncello da spalla. They called it simply violoncello. Culture-appreciative musicians and intellectuals appreciate the revival of this cultural tradition today.

Cello for Violinists and Violists #shorts #violoncello Violoncellodaspalla

🎻 In the past 30 years, I have noticed that many professional violinists and violists want not only to make music but also to make a living. The problem is, there are probably a few hundred violinists in your town, and they all want the same thing.

🌍 In your country, there might be tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of them. On a global scale, there are millions wanting the same few spots where a musician like you can actually earn more than you're currently earning.

❓ And why is this an issue?

📉 This is an issue because when supply outweighs demand, employers might find it very difficult to even discover your talent or justify paying you more when countless others are willing to do your job for less.

⚠️ Are you beginning to see why this might be a race to the bottom?

💡 Here is the solution. Your talent and decades of dedication are not meant for the bottom, but we have to agree on two fundamental truths:

1️⃣ A violin or viola player with good technique earns €$XX per hour. They do their job phenomenally well, like countless others. But there is a very low cap on their market value because many violinists are capable of doing the same job.
2️⃣ A violin or viola player with the ability to offer something absolutely unique, and/or attract audiences to their employer's or promoter's hall, by definition, earns more because they become an even more valuable asset: a better investment. Their earning is €$XXX(XX+) and it is still a fair exchange of value for value.

🎯 Their technique is not necessarily much better, if at all. These musicians are frequently not chasing concert opportunities. Employers chase them, competing to offer a better deal. Radio, TV hosts, and journalists chase these musicians to simply have a chat about what they love to do and why it matters because culture is everything to cultured people.
As Yo-Yo Ma once said, "Ultimately, what matters is what the artist represents." So, what do YOU represent?

🔀 See, you are at a cross..

🛑 Self-employed baroque violinists and violists, have you always wanted to learn more about the violoncello da spalla but didn't know where to begin? Check out my book on Da Spalla: https://BookOnDaSpalla.com

Today, the violoncello da spalla is also frequently called viola da spalla or cello da spalla, however, during the 17th and 18th centuries, composers commonly referred to it as "a" VIOLONCELLO.

✋ 🤗 You might be thinking, "Of course, but 🤷 what's in it for me?" If that's you, I hear you. Private sponsors, foundations, and governments supporting artists, might find it hard to justify financially supporting an artist who's not interesting enough. These cultured elites find it interesting to preserve cultural traditions such as the violoncello da spalla.

✋ 🤗 You might also be asking, "But, can you give me guarantees?" Of course, I can guarantee this: if you don't give yourself a chance, nothing will ever change.

✋ 🤗 Or you might be wondering, "But, who the heck cares about culture anyway?" If that's you, gotcha! Google it! The media is ablaze with news on cultural loss, as much as it is ablaze with politics or AI.

Right now, we need more self-employed violinists who care about culture and want to contribute even more and create even more success in their lives, the kind of success your family, kids, spouse, friends, your audiences - including your future patrons! - will admire you for.

Many talented violinists want to make music and make a good living from being good musicians. And this is something that the music industry as it is just not designed to provide. Generally speaking. Here is the truth:

Many face that intense competition and the pressure to conform to traditional standards of excellence. Some talented musicians struggle with the fear of not being good enough or not standing out in a saturated field, leading to frustration and a lack of fulfillment.

Sometimes they even run out of love for music decades before the retirement sets them 'free'.

This is why I revived the violoncello da spalla to help violinists break free from the violin rat race and find their unique voice, enrich their music, which in turn improves their lives.

My book is full of testimonials from talented musicians I helped in the past 20 years.

Here is the truth: many self-employed violinists, violists and cellists want to make not just music, some also want to make a living from making music. I am not suggesting that you're not making a living, of course, you are making music and earning a lot as a musician, but maybe you heard of others who would like to feel rewarded even more for enriching other people's lives. I am passionate about helping people get tangible results, not just info, not just violins, violas and violoncellos of my work. Here is the truth:

Orchestra Directors aim for musicians to play even more inspiredly, find uniqueness, and ultimately secure funding to ensure further growth.

Heads of Departments at Colleges or Schools of Music seek increased enrollment and even higher graduate success rates.

Event Organizers want their audience to be inspired to choose faith over fear and take action.

As an event organizer, you're well aware that your audience expects nothing short of the top experience. Yet, despite providing your employees, students, and coworkers with these top opportunities, many are still held back by fear and self-doubt: "This won't work for me", "This cannot be done", "The time is not right", "What if things go wrong", "I don't have what it takes"

That's why you need more than a typical lecturer or a mere manual worker.
You need a speaker who can inspire, challenge norms, and provide actionable strategies for success.

Dmitry embodies these qualities, making him the ideal choice to elevate your events and programs, ensuring both you and your audience shine.

As a professional violinist, violist, or cellist who loves Bach, you might argue that it is hardly possible to play even worse. You could assert that this playing is devoid of solid technique, good intonation, metronomically correct rhythm, and refined artistic ideas. If that's you, I agree. You are right. I am just an author of the book on Da Spalla and luthier, not a musician.

I look forward to hearing it in your skilled hands. Thankfully, I've made this instrument for a number of world-famous violin soloists and conductors who actually did justice to it and made it accepted on the cultural scene.

I am going the extra mile to help young musicians actually experience this instrument LIVE rather than study it only on YouTube. This is a snippet from the recent practical Da Spalla LIVE workshop.

You might ask, "What's in it for me?" or "Who cares?"

The good news is, music lovers and intellectuals care about culture, and these highly educated audiences understand that without musicians like you, they would not have any musical culture at all. Other than something perhaps very primitive, made of three chords and a ton of percussions.

Mendelssohn brought back Bach to life. Casals brought back his Cello Suites. You are bringing back to life the cello of Bach's choice.

These highly intellectual people understand that without musicians like you, we would not have much of the music today some people consider indispensable. Dowland, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel's operas, not even Bach.

Radio hosts, TV presenters, local journalists begin talking about you because reviving cultural traditions resonates with their core values. And this may have a positive effect on your musical life, which in turn may have a positive effect on your family life.

Yet, with this said, in this video, you can enjoy the least skilled playing on this gorgeous instrument. Just imagine what YOU could do with YOUR solid technique, and YOUR artistic and personal maturity.

So, what might be the issue? I am not saying it's your issue; maybe you have achieved the heights of fame and the depths of the philosophical meaning of music.

But, you may have heard of others who feel they could achieve more, only if the time was right, if money wasn't an issue, if the world was an absolutely ideal place, and if they lived in a richer country and had every other imaginable resource.

To help those violinists, I craft instruments and share my knowledge from my vast experience as both, former professional violinist and professional luthier.

If you are a decision maker in the music industry and you work with musicians, and you decide what knowledge they have access to (or not), reach out to organize a talk, keynote, practical workshop for your musicians. When we inspire them, they will play even better. And that in turn may have a positive effect on music culture and on your life. And, hopefully, it will improve their lives too.

And if you are a self-employed violin, viola or cello player or a player of any other instrument - I hope you find something useful in this video personally to you.

Most violinists experience an improvement in their playing when they use a superior quality violin. The problem arises because not every violinist has a spare million euros. To help violinists play even better, I craft instruments comparable to the violins made by some of the most iconic masters of the past. That way, you can:
🌟 Impress your friends, audiences, and colleagues with a professional sound that rivals the finest antiques.
🎻 Play with unparalleled confidence, knowing that your violin will elevate your performance effortlessly, even if you ever feel you did not have enough time to prepare.
💰 Save hundreds of thousands of euros compared to antique violins while attracting even more lucrative artistic opportunities.

P.O.R.: https://badiarovviolins.com/jp/baroque-violin-for-sale/

Ultimately, the question is not "Do you hear the million euro difference?" as it is not about the "stuff," though the "stuff" is easier for most people to understand. People like us, however, look deeper. In this violin, you hear the ancient masters' acoustical know-how revived. What is this know-how? It's the old masters' culture. And musicians like us appreciate that culture. Currently, we are looking for more musicians who care about culture too, not just stuff.
