The original lyrics are attributed to Pauline T, from around 1868. The verse about tyrants was added by Doris Plenn, and I believe it was Pete who removed the overtly Christian references in the lyrics.

I had a fabulous day today speaking with a group of local primary school kids (K-6) about music and songwriting, children have a passion for music and I wish the education system integrated more of it.
