The central banks have been on a gold buying spree ever since Russia was sanctioned by the US in early 2022. And they just set a new first quarter record for the amount of gold purchased.

Given the events that have occurred since then, which now include escalating Middle East tensions, the news isn't entirely surprising. And especially now that Russia has responded with sanctions of its own on JP Morgan assets, the environment doesn't seem to be showing many signs of improvement.

There’s a growing chance that a few decades from now we’ll look back at what happened on March 11, 2022, when Russia was kicked out of the SWIFT system, as one of the major turning points of our modern financial system.

At that point the US had already frozen over $300 billion of Russian assets after Russia’s invasion into Ukraine. And following the decision to remove Russia from SWIFT, we’ve seen an acceleration of the de-dollarization movement, as other countries have wondered whether they could be next.

Now the US is considering sanctions against China, while moving legislation forward to confiscate the frozen Russian assets, and Russia has responded by sanctioning $440 million of JP Morgan assets.

If there's one myth that Keynesianism has ingrained successfully into the sound money gold and silver community, it's that higher rates are the solution to higher consumer prices. We are about to see that myth blasted into subatomic pieces so small it will conclusively demonstrate the existence of quarks.

The yen is collapsing as we speak, and the mainstream is blaming it on the fact that the Bank of Japan refuses to hike rates. However, if the BoJ does raise rates, the yen will collapse even faster, a tight correlation we've seen since 2015.

Once the Keynesian world at large understands that higher rates are now synonymous with what they call "inflation", they'll be completely out of options. It may only take one more panicked hike by the BoJ to finally slay the "higher rates equals lower inflation" dragon, at which point the deep, dark realization of what the Central Banks have done to their currencies may finally take its gold and silver shape.

Where do people pile their dollars in the End Game? We got a sneak preview this week, twice, as Iran and Israel both pretended to start World War III with mutual pretend bombing raids on each other telegraphed days in advance to the entire solar system. Despite the obvious theater of it all, gold spiked to $3,000 on Saturday night on nerves as 300 missiles made their way to Israel at a drunken snail's pace. At the very same moment, bitcoin dumped by 10%. So there's that.

Meanwhile, UBS – the bank that took over Credit Suisse last year – needs a $25B bailout but they're not calling it that because it's a bad word. And in another lesson from the 1970s, the gold to silver ratio was stable from 1972 until we finally got to 1979, which Rafi thinks we are just about to repeat.

Vince Lanci has been covering the deluge of bank reports that have been upgrading their gold price targets. But today he looks at silver, and a bullish report by Citi that includes an upgrade to over $30 per ounce.

Keep in mind that outside of the spike to $50 in 1980 and the spike to $49 in 2011, silver has not traded above the $30 level, aside from a few hours during the silversqueeze in 2021. So it's a significant level, which has acted like a ceiling in the past few years, with silver trading right up to $30 several times but getting sent lower on each occasion.

Over the 2 year bear market in silver, one of the primary reasons the market struggled so much was that there was little investment by the institutional funds.

We've seen metal leaving the silver ETFs, and the #silverstocks were hit particularly hard by the lack of investment to the mining space. Leaving investors sitting and waiting for the interest (and capital) to return for almost two years.

But signs are emerging that the environment is beginning to change as the gold and silver prices have rallied. In today's call I talk with Dan Dickson of Endeavour Silver, who talks about the differences he's been seeing on the institutional side of the market, that's been fueled by an increasing amount of bank coverage and upgrades.

Dan also talks about the supply and demand conditions facing the silver market, and provides an update on Endeavour's new Terronera mine that's getting closer to coming coming online.
