Our Song a New Jazz Song by Peter Tompkins
Our Song a New Jazz Song by Peter Tompkins
This song started out being a political statement about Clear Channel Communications. Over time it evolved into a song about my parents. Any time my mom heard "their song" come on the radio, which was String of Pearls by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, she would say to my dad, "Awww! That's our song." They would get up and dance around the room for the entirety of the song. It was one of the only times I saw them look happy together.
Robert Carothers has been bringing my music to life for over twenty-years. I can't say enough about his talent and generosity. He produced this song in his studio, Harvest Recording. He also played guitar, bass and piano as well as sang harmonies.
Eric MdGuinn is a naturally gifted cinematographer that I just started working with. He came up with the idea for this video. It was shot in one take as Robert and I switched to different instruments. Eric will be working with me as the cinematographer on my documentary, The Artist.

Lyrics
Our Song words and music by Peter Tompkins
c2020 BMI
Whatever happened to our song?
We heard it on the radio each and every night.
We made love listening to that tune
Bathed in pale blue moonlight
The channels they’re all clear and it’s time to go.
Cus there’s nothing left to hear on the radio.
Please Mr. DJ. It was hers and mine.
Won’t you play it one more time?
Time to say goodnight will be coming soon
au revoir and farewell to our favorite tune.
Please Mr. DJ It was hers and mine won’t you play it one more time
Whatever happened to our song?
We heard it on the radio each and every night.
We made love listening to that tune
Bathed in pale blue moonlight
Chills up and down my spine each and every time I heard that song
It said you’d be mine there in 4/4 time for the rest of my life
