2024 Audi S8
Starting at $121.695

Watch full video: https://youtu.be/Mb0FUFWp2DI

Overview

Even though it wears a plus-size wardrobe, the 2024 Audi S8 handles curves like a much smaller sports sedan. Based on the A8 luxury sedan, the S8 ups the ante with trick performance features such as rear-wheel steering and a torque-vectoring rear differential to achieve handling heroics. On top of all that, it swaps the A8's V-6 for a twin-turbo V-8 with 563 horsepower. The roomy cabin is ideal for relaxing while covering long distances, so you get the best of both worlds. A host of high-tech features provides plenty of opportunity for connectivity, but if you want to tune out the outside world, there's no better way to do that than to open it up and let that V-8 sing. The S8's athleticism is rare in the large luxury sedan segment, and its only real competitors are the Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo and the Mercedes-AMG S63, both of which cost quite a bit more.

What's New for 2024?
Like the regular A8 sedan, the S8 gains an app-based remote-start feature for 2024 as well as a new suite of apps designed to improve access to entertainment and navigation. Otherwise, the S8 is unchanged for the 2024 model year.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
S8: $121,695

That six-figure starting price is steep, but the S8 comes well-equipped even by luxury car standards. We'd suggest the Comfort Plus package as it adds heated rear seats, a leather-wrapped dashboard, a head-up display, and fancier LED headlamps; the Executive package is also appealing and comes with blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and 21-inch wheels.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The S8's sole engine choice is a potent one: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine making 563 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and the transmission is an eight-speed automatic. Audi claims a top speed of 155 mph, and there are fuel-saving systems, too, including cylinder deactivation and a mild-hybrid setup with a small electric motor and battery. At our test track, the S8 blasted to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. An active suspension system can control each wheel individually to improve ride quality, and it is tuned differently than that of the standard A8, delivering improved cornering prowess thanks to reduced body roll. Audi also includes equipment such as a torque-vectoring rear differential and rear-wheel steering to increase agility; powerful carbon-ceramic brakes are optional.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Even though the S8 is technically a hybrid, buyers shouldn't expect Toyota Prius-level fuel efficiency. The EPA estimates that the best we can expect is 22 mpg on the highway, with the city rating dropping to just 13 mpg. Ouch. We haven't had the chance to test the S8 on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, but when we do, we'll update this story with the results. For more information about the S8's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

2023 Rolls-Royce Cullinan
Starting at $355.000 est

Overview
People refer to top-tier luxury items as the "Rolls-Royce of…" for a reason. The Cullinan is a big-body SUV powered by a silky-smooth twin-turbo V-12 with up to 592 horsepower. Built for absolute comfort and priced for the egregiously wealthy, the Cullinan coddles you with two rows of plush seating as lovely as leather couches. No other SUV has lambs-wool floor mats inside and a formidable hood ornament donning the outside. While its exterior is a little too London taxi for us, its cabin can be tailored to suit the wildest of tastes and the deepest of pockets. The Daddy Warbucks of SUV excellence has few competitors, but if a billionaire were forced to cross-shop, a Bentley Bentayga or Mercedes-AMG G63 might be a good place to start. Even then, they're no coach-door-swinging Cullinan.

What's New for 2023?
Rolls-Royce doesn't make any changes to the Cullinan for the 2023 model year.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
Cullinan: $355,000 (est)

In the make-believe scenario that we could afford a Cullinan, we'd choose the Crystal paint scheme, the 22-inch seven-spoke wheels, the gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, and the electronic tow hitch. We'd spec the Immersive Seating with Center Console option, which gives the rear seats massage functionality and replaces the center seat with a console that doubles as a cooling bin with two champagne flutes and a whiskey decanter. And we wouldn't pass up the opportunity to have the fabric above our heads display a fiber-optic starry night sky via the Shooting Star Headliner. Finally, we'd add the rear privacy glass and side curtains to make the back row into a tranquil hideout.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Cullinan's twin-turbo 6.7-liter V-12 provides 563 horsepower (592 in the Black Badge model) and is whisper quiet, lest it disturb the VIPs in the cabin. The one we tested recorded a 60-mph time of just 4.5 seconds—impressive for a vehicle that weighs about three tons. All-wheel drive is standard, although we suspect buyers will never venture off the tarmac and risk damaging the paint. The Cullinan rides on an air suspension that receives information from a road-scanning camera and automatically adjusts the vehicle's height to compensate for imperfections in the pavement. Ride comfort is beyond the standards of regular luxury vehicles, as the Cullinan wafts down the road and transmits nothing unpleasant to the people inside.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The Cullinan's V-12 powertrain is rated at 12 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Believe it or not, those figures aren't the worst in the class. The V-12-po

BMW has teamed up with boat maker TYDE to build a new battery-electric watercraft that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival.

The ICON measures more than 43 feet long and reaches a top speed of 30 knots while riding on hydrofoils. It relies on a pair of 100 kW electric motors that convert 240 kWh of energy supplied by six batteries from BMW i into a range of more than 50 nautical miles.

The drive system and hydrofoils mean the ICON produces nearly zero noise and minimal wake.

2023 Lexus RX: Starting at $48,950

Highlights of the 2023 Lexus RX include its stylish new design, upgraded premium cabin, and modern infotainment interface. However, some drawbacks to consider are the relatively sluggish acceleration in most models, a lack of driving excitement compared to rival SUVs, and the absence of a three-row option. While the RX appears elegant and upscale, it still falls short in terms of performance when compared to its European competitors.

Overview:

The 2023 Lexus RX SUV has undergone a complete overhaul, yet it retains its signature soft-riding characteristics, which appeal to its loyal customer base. The lineup offers four powertrain options, including a new plug-in hybrid variant. The redesigned RX features sharper styling, highlighted by a revamped grille and distinctive L-shaped running lights. Inside the cabin, there's a focus on luxury and convenience, with a spacious infotainment touchscreen and the latest tech features. Unlike its predecessor, the 2023 RX comes exclusively as a two-row, five-seat SUV, but Lexus may introduce a three-row version in the future or a larger SUV with seven-seat capacity.

What's New for 2023?

The 2023 RX marks the start of its fifth generation with a fresh design while maintaining its traditional smooth and quiet driving experience.

Pricing and Recommendations:
* RX350: $48,950
* RX350 Premium: $50,950
* RX350h: $51,545
* RX350h Premium: $53,545
* RX350 Premium Plus: $53,550
* RX350h Premium Plus: $56,145
* RX350 Luxury: $56,950
* RX350 F Sport: $58,150
* RX350h Luxury: $59,545
* RX500h F Sport Performance: $64,145

For driving enthusiasts, the RX500h F Sport Performance stands out as the most thrilling option. However, it comes with a higher price tag. For more casual drivers seeking a balance of power and comfort, the RX350 Premium Plus offers an attractive choice, equipped with additional luxuries like a larger infotainment screen, genuine leather upholstery, and ambient interior lighting.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance:

The 2023 RX comes with four powertrain options. The base RX350 model is powered by a 275-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard, with the option for all-wheel drive. The RX350h is a hybrid variant, combining electric motors with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 246 horsepower and featuring a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. The RX500h F Sport Performance provides a more potent powertrain, combining the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with electric power to generate 367 horsepower, utilizing Lexus's Direct4 system for all-wheel drive. Despite these options, the RX's performance is still relatively modest, lacking the agility and excitement found in rival SUVs. The plug-in hybrid RX450h+ is expected to join the lineup later, likely sharing the 302-hp powertrain found in the Toyota RAV4 Prime and Lexus NX450h+ S
