Joseph Henry (December 17, 1799 – May 13, 1878) was a Scottish-American scientist whose inventions and discoveries in the fields of electromagnetism and magnetic induction helped launch the age of electrodynamics. Henry served as First Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution where he developed what would eventually become the national weather service.
