Former NYC firefighter Derek Floyd died just four months after being fired by FDNY to free up money for the migrant crisis. He suffered a heart attack, which is unfortunately more common among firefighters than any other profession due to the nature of the job. He was just shy of having enough time on the job to receive death benefits for his family that would have totaled up to $600,000. Floyd was just 36 years old. He leaves behind a wife and two small children, ages 6 and 2.

Over two hundred thousand migrants have poured into the city since the summer of 2022. NYC Mayor Eric Adams and New York State Governor Kathy Hochul point the finger in various directions for this crisis. The blame for NYC and New York State being inundated with migrants falls directly on the shoulders of leadership. NYC and NY State are both sanctuaries, which means they do not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal agency tasked with deportation. This status is a beacon to migrants worldwide who flock to New York, legally or illegally.
