This is one of my all-time favourite Jet Li films, and I've seen all but 4 of them (that have been released anyways). I thought the plot was VERY good and the acting was top notch too. The fight scenes were very good and well...it was just amazing. Most importantly, an incredible rarity, it didn't have a kid who annoyed the hell out of me! Quite an impressive feat.

Some interesting gender role reversals take place during a 'comedy of errors.'

I finally managed to get my hands on a copy of this movie, and all I can say is WOW! Wow, because I didn't understand what the hell was going on for the whole movie, the subtitles were so badly misaligned. But mainly WOW! because it didn't matter a jot that I couldn't tell what the plot was as the film is just one amazing "fight" scene after another. This film defies belief and description. If you like martial arts movies, check this out. If you enjoyed Crouching Tiger, check this out. If you love MAD films check this out.
There is a scene in which Jet Li fights the mother of the woman he has a crush on entirely on the HEADS of a crowd! Then HIS mother fights with the first woman. From the opening scene you will see that this is a piece of genius. The plot doesn't matter. This is pure spectacle.
When you see these people move you will realize that the USA can never invade China. They just have all the tricks in the book. They wrote the tricks. I wish I had seen this when I was 9. It would have changed my life.

Plot: A corrupt businessman commits a murder and the only witness is the girlfriend of another businessman with close connections to the Chinese government, so a bodyguard from Beijing is dispatched to help two Hong Kong cops protect the witness. Complications arise when the bodyguard and the witness must confront their deep feelings for one another.
A martial arts expert is employed as a bodyguard to a powerful businessman's girlfriend who is the sole witness to a murder. While trying to keep their relationship on a professional level and stay out of danger, the bodyguard and witness find themselves increasingly attracted to one another.

John Chang is sent from Bejing to protect the only witness to a murder, Michelle Yeung. However, as the two get in deeper and deeper into the fight for survival, they start to get feelings that could spell doom for both of them.
Jet Li was some 4 years away from becoming a world star as opposed to his standing in Asia, his pre-American efforts are a highly mixed bunch. Here with The Defender, we find Li oozing cool and delighting in the art of chop sockery and intricate gunplay, but strip away the action and we are left with a pretty empty film. It's a standard fable of a bodyguard protecting a pretty girl (the delicious Christy Chung) and after the initial resentments subside, we find our duo falling in too deep and putting all at risk within their world. However, the action (the point of these pictures as we know) delivers royally, particularly in the last quarter where the ante goes through the roof and the testo level follows it, it's here where Li and the rest of the grafters earn their respective corn. The finale sequences alone make this picture worth your while, whilst you will rarely see a skateboard and a torch be so intricately and funnily used at the same time!

Instantly forgettable outside of the action set pieces, it still manages to be an entertaining watch for the action junkies amongst us.

Review:
A HK movie that doesn't have over-the-top music, bad dubbing, over-stylish direction, or bad actors deserves to get a better mention. After watching the APPALLING "Black Mask" (directed by that unfortunately highly American-influenced Daniel Lee) I didn't expect much from this. I was pleasantly surprised. Good acting all around (watch for Jet Li's subtle quirks), standable music, nice sound, simple and unglorified directing (check out the fight with the guy with the lasers) good fight scenes, and a solid plot make this a good change of pace from most Jet Li movies. Don't watch it for a Martial Arts Flick, just watch it for a well-made action movie and you won't be disappointed. 7.5 /10

Ernst Christof Friedrich Zündel (April 24, 1939 – August 5, 2017) was a German publisher and pamphleteer (known for promoting Holocaust denial). He was jailed several times: in Canada for publishing literature ("likely to incite hatred against an identifiable group"), and on charges of being a threat to national security; in the United States, for overstaying his visa; and in Germany for charges of "inciting racial hatred".
Zündel died at his home in Germany, of a suspected heart attack, on August 5, 2017.

what HK marital arts cinema should be. This movie rocks. That's it, those are my feelings for this film summed up in a comprehensible sentence.
This is a surprisingly dark film, not all clean-cut heroes and villains story. it's not a story about idealistic law enforcement, it's about cops living in a very bad world, and doing whatever they need to do to get the job done.

Donnie Yen is in prime form here, it's great to see him back in action and such a center-stage role. But Sammo Hung is THE MAN in this film, a perfect villain and total badass. watch it just for him.
The fights are all amazing. It's less artsy kungfu and a little more brutal streetfighting. Donnie Yen's choreography is at its best, everything looks painful and bloody. The battle between Sammo and Donnie has to be one of the best I've seen in a while.
Kill or kidnap whoever you need to see this flick. it's worth it.

Donnie Yen has arrived. For me, this movie is one of the best Modern Martial Arts Flick of Hong Kong today! The kind that I've been waiting long to see! As a long-time fan of Donnie Yen (I've been an instant fan since I saw his first movie Drunken Tai-Chi, a long time ago), I believe he has finally got the chance to show his true talent, as the up-and-coming modern-day Action Director. Donnie Yen has arrived!

The fight choreography is very unique and freshly thought out, amazing at times. Combined with limited wire-work, stylized complicated movements (Donnie Yen's Specialty), and very complementary Computer Generated Special Effects, the fight scenes will blow your mind away. Not to mention the addition of the ground-shaking 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound Effects. You gotta see and experience it for yourself to know what I mean.

Story-wise, LONG HU MEN (Dragon Tiger Gate) delivers true to its comic book nature about the tale of Good vs Evil, told within the realm of the Amazingly Imagined Hong Kong Triad/ Martial Underworld. The Cinematography is unique too. In some scenes it felt like a very imaginary world, others like a very beautifully-painted old-day Hong Kong, yet in another, it looks so realistic, true to the color of the world today.
I may be biased so just go watch it for yourself.

The disciples had just witnessed Christ revealing to them the interpretation of the Old Testament. The Messiah was prophesied to suffer for our sins and prophesied to then rise from the dead on the third day. This knowledge and the knowledge that Jesus is the Christ comes from the Father as the gift of eternal life. John 17:3: And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. However many American Christians have been influenced by the teachings of John Nelson Darby through the Scofield Study bible. Scofield taught that Jesus is not currently the Christ but instead we are in the interregnum period or Church age.
After the Church is raptured Jesus will come back again to the Jews, sitting on the Throne of David, and offer himself as their Christ. Then the millennium or thousand-year rule by the Jews can begin. But John says the liar and antichrist denies Jesus is currently the Christ. I John 2: 22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is the antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

Born in Wisconsin in the early 1950s and accepted by Notre Dame in the Fall of 1969, he visited that Winter, where his sisters' class-mates told him:
"We are f'd-up - we don't know why we are f'd-up, but anyone who comes here will also get f'd-up."

Returning home he told his Father, - Class of 43' - Notre Dame was too corrupt and it would be a complete disaster if he accepted. His Dad thought otherwise and ordered him to go in the Fall of 1970. Plot: 28th-century soldier Mitch Hunter leads a fight against an army of underworld Mutants.
