Amazon Breaking Seller News! Amazon eases and clarifies low inventory fees.
Gather around kids this is a good read.
First the Transition period is extended to May 14.
Seasonal products and end of life ASINs are getting a reprieve. Fees do not apply if the product has less than 20 units sold in the past 7 days.
"Because of the greater unpredictability in managing inventory levels for seasonal, end-of-life, and other low-volume products with varying demand, starting May 15, the low-inventory-level fee will not apply to products that have sold less than 20 units in the past 7 days." - From the Seller News page.
Another good update is the fact that Amazon claims they won't charge this fee if they mess up on late checkins or excessive inbound handling. (I bet you're going to need to fight them on this tho).
"Low-inventory-level fees incurred due to excessive inbounding and processing times caused by Amazon or Amazon-managed services will be credited back to you by the 15th day of the following month."
Amazon also added Timebound exception for Prime Day Deals. Which essentially means if you have a lightning deal, best deal during Prime Day you won't get any low inventory fees.
These are great steps - but the new fee in general is a seller tax and we all know it. It's just Amazon FBA paying it's stock holders with revenue. The consumer will lose here when they inherit the price hikes.
Unless you're a Chinese seller, in that case your government subsidizes you so you can compete on Amazon at lower prices...
