From my perspective, the anecdote I often share from my time at Chrysler engineering illustrates a fascinating phenomenon in problem-solving. I recall overseeing a section of the factory with large sewing machines, prone to occasional breakdowns. Whenever the repairmen were called in, they arrived with a grumpy demeanor, seemingly resentful of any disruptions to their routine. However, their approach to fixing the machines was anything but conventional. Rather than immediately diving into repairs, they would first establish a connection with the machine, almost treating it as a living entity. Placing their hand on the machine, they would inquire, "What do you need, baby?" Surprisingly, this simple act often resulted in the machine springing back to life without any physical adjustments. From my perspective, this story underscores the power of empathy, intuition, and a holistic approach in problem-solving, even in industrial environments.
