In a somewhat unusual arrangement, Mr. Brennan is serving as the show runner for both series. (With “CSI,” for instance, a different executive is in charge of each of the three series.) Two assistants, one tied to each show, now compete for his time. He said he had started having the scripts for each show printed on paper of different colors.
Mr. Brennan spoke enthusiastically about the spinoff’s technical partnerships with Lockheed Martin, the aerial photography company Pictometry and Perceptive Pixel, the creator of the so-called magic wall made famous by CNN and other news networks last year.
“It’s a very tech-savvy show,” said Dave Kalstein, a writer on the spinoff.
To that end, Mr. Kalstein and other staff members visited a naval weapons base with the help of Lockheed Martin over the summer. Mr. Kalstein said he found it especially helpful for his first episode, which imagines what would happen if a Predator drone aircraft were hacked.
He recalled asking an employee at the base, “Can a Predator actually be hacked?” and being told, “I’m not allowed to tell you that.”
