Near the end of Natchez Trace stands a monument approximately 72 miles from Nashville, Tennessee. This monument was erected in 1848, 39 years after the individual's death, using funds from the State of Tennessee rather than the U.S. government. A fitting end to an American Hero? But wait, there is a lot more to this story.
