Notwithstanding, I find his talks on YouTube have resorted to a crude simplicity and reductionism unbecoming a scholar of his caliber. Until now, for the most part, he has gone unchallenged. This idea of progress as evolution——for Pinker it`s not merely casual or implicit. He even has a whole book devoted to the idea that we are better off now than four or five decades ago. He is very dedicated to this idea of progress! When I first started paying closer attention to Pinker´s talks on YouTube, I couldn`t believe the bad arguments he was making, which is all the more astonishing for someone who is at the forefront of understanding how the mind works.
