Poetry - The fairness of it all - By Paul Collis

At thirty-six, life's cruel and bitter sting,

A heart attack, a twist of fate unkind,

In front of my dear child, I felt the zing,

Unfairness of it all, to fate, I cursed and pined.

I was a lighting engineer, so bright,

In my career, I soared with passion's flame,

But now it's dimmed, extinguished in the night,

Unfair, unjust, I mourned my altered aim.

Before my little one, the pain unfurls,

A three-year-old, wide eyes now scarred by fear,

Unfairness of that moment's twisted whirl,

Innocence shattered, memories unclear.

Life's cruel jest, unfair in every way,

Yet I'll fight back, find light in night's dismay.
