James Gunn's The Suicde Squad received a lot of praise, especially compared to David Ayer's 2016 movie, which is a bit unfair because very few people have seen that movie as Ayer intended it to be seen.

The Suicide Squad is more narratively cohesive (which is easy to do when your movie isn't edited by a video trailer house) but it's also a lot more cynical and needlessly gory.

Watching Ayer's movie you watch and wonder what was the point, while the reboot is equally irritating and just as pointless, just in a different manner.
