JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A teenager was shot at an apartment complex in Jackson on Friday.
According to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, the 18-year-old was shot in “the upper body” at the Pine Ridge Garden apartment complex, formerly known as the Rebelwood apartment complex.
His condition is unknown.
A person of interest was detained by the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office at 2:28 p.m. However, according to Sheriff Jones, the detainee escaped shortly after.
A manhunt is underway for the suspect who escaped police custody in the area of Gallatin and Hooker Streets.
According to Sheriff Jones, the suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Ameni Olugbala. He was described as a 6′1″ Black man wearing red pants, black flip-flops, and no shirt. He also has a burn mark on his upper body.
Olugbala was arrested by JPD in August 2020 for murder and shooting in an occupied vehicle and is currently out on a $100,000 bond, as of May 2021, according to the the sheriff. The status of Olugbala’s charges is unknown at this time
