Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits along a thermometer must increase from the bulb end. Purple “renban” lines contain a non-repeating set of consecutive digits in any order. Gold “nabner” lines contain a non-repeating set of digits, and no two digits on the same line can be consecutive (regardless of their position on the line). Along orange “entropic” lines, every set of three adjacent cells must contain one low digit (1-3), one middle digit (4-6), and one high digit (7-9). Digits in cells separated by an X sum to 10. Digits in cells with a shaded square must be even.

We have been alerted of a potential sudoku catastrophe. We've never featured a puzzle from by the constructor Meggen033 and it's something that some of you know we need to put right! So tonight we're trying their One-Fog-Nine sudoku - a 159 puzzle mixed with a little dose of fog! And it's a really nice debut (and fairly approachable we'd say!).

Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Each digit in column 1 indexes the 1 in its row (eg if R3C1=4 then 1 must appear in the fourth column of that row ie R3C4=1). The same rule applies to column 5 digits indexing 5 in its row, and column 9 digits indexing 9 in its row. The digits in a cage must sum to the small clue in the cage’s top left corner. Digits may not repeat within a cage. A black dot between cells indicates cell values with a 2:1 ratio (ie one digit is double the other). ALL BLACK DOTS ARE SHOWN. The grid is partially covered with fog. Correctly placed digits will clear the fog around that cell. No guessing is required.

A new constructor, Jolly Rogers, has created a really remarkable ruleset based around introducing more squares to the sudoku grid (there clearly aren't enough already!) The upshot is a sudoku that has several distinct parts to the solve - all of which are really interesting!

Normal sudoku rules apply. Divide the grid into non-overlapping square-shaped regions. The sum of a square's four corner cells must be divisible by the number of cells that square contains. E.g the sum of the corners for a 3x3 square must be divisible by 9. Every cell must belong to a square and a 1x1 square region is not valid. The cell containing a red circle cannot be a corner of any square region. Orthogonally adjacent cells separated by a square region border must have the same parity (odd or even). Rules:
Fill the cells with the digits 1 to 8 such that each digit appears exactly once in every row, column and region. A region is a collection of eight orthogonally connected cells. Determining the shape of the regions is part of the puzzle. Each region has exactly one clue which is a small number in the upper left corner of some cell in that region (not necessarily the top left cell). Shade some cells such that: a) no orthogonally neighboring cells are shaded across a region boundary; b) all shaded cells within a region are orthogonally connected; an c) the digits in all shaded cells within a region sum to the region's clue. If all of the shaded groups were to fall straight down without changing shape, they must completely fill the bottom half of the grid.

Normal sudoku rules apply. Draw a snake (a one-cell wide path) into the grid which does not touch itself orthogonally. Areas not covered by the snake form 8 separate regions, one of each size 1-8 ('eggs') which, in turn, may touch one another diagonally but not orthogonally. Adjacent cells on a green line must contain one snake cell and one egg cell AND these cells’ digits must differ in value by at least 5. If a circle is in an egg, it gives the count of cells in the egg. If a circle is on the snake, it gives the number of snake cells “seen” by that circle, including itself (ie the number of contiguous snake cells extending horizontally and vertically from that cell, including itself).

Yesterday, one of the questions on the BBC quiz show, Pointless, asked contestants about variations of sudoku!! One answer that would have been pointless is Parroty Sudoku (!), a new collaboration between two of the world's most innovative setters, Michael Lefkowitz and Marty Sears.
This puzzle has everything: it's comedic, clever, artistic and fun to solve. Bravo gentlemen!

Rules:
Normal Sudoku rules apply. PARROTY LINES: A 'word' is a non-repeating sequence of digits, like '365', '24', or '7' (but not '747'). Each white Parroty Line consists of one or more copies of the same word. The digit on a parrot indicates the length of the word the parrot is saying. (Example: a parrot with a 3 could be saying “486 486”). Digits in a cage sum to the attached tag.

Digits 1-5 appear in each marked region. No digit can be within a (chess) king's move of an identical digit. No orthogonal or diagonal trio of adjacent digits is an arithmetical sequence in order. So e.g. 123, 531 or 345 are forbidden but e.g. 132, 513 and 245 are allowed.

The quote in the title is from cam, one of the excellent solvers on Logic Masters Germany. It is a daunting sentiment! The puzzle in question is Gouge Away by Math Pesto and we DO understand what Cam is saying. The logic here is surprising and brilliant (and quite hard!)
