Idalia National Park is 113km SW of Blackall in Outback Queensland. I explore Old Idalia hut, Wave rock, Rainbow Gorge, Murphys Rockhole, Bullock Gorge, Emmet Pocket and Monks Tank Campground. Idalia is home to a large number of the threatened yellow-footed rock wallabies, a great place to see one. Perfect for quiet camping away from the crowds. A great 4x4 Touring Outback Queensland trip to partake in.

Join the journey as I uncover Currawinya's secrets, in part 4 I camp at Ourimperee Waterhole and explore the bird life at the freshwater Lake Numalla, the vast dry expanse of the saltwater Lake Wyara and complete bush repairs on my Defender 110. A 13 Day Epic Adventure exploring Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland.

Ourimperee Waterhole bush campgrounds have plenty of space for 4x4 cavarvans, trailers or tents. Cold showers are provided and flushing toilets available at the Currawinya Woolshed. Plenty of birdlife around the camp, with the Ranger station a short drive away providing mobile phone reception at the office.

Lake Numalla is freshwater attracting plenty of bird-life, perfect for birdwatching, hiking or bring a canoe or swim. Lake Wyara is a saltlake which was currently dry, but when full it attracts many saltwater species which come to nest and breed. There is no camping at the lakes, but it only takes about 1-1/2 hours to drive from Ourimperee campgrounds. Both these lakes are Ramsar protected areas of international significance. A 4x4 is recommended but the track was mostly corrugated, so a 2WD could likely complete the trip with care during dry periods.

Join me in part 4 for my discoveries of what Currawinya has to offer the outback traveller.

Join the journey as I uncover Currawinya's secrets, in part 3 I camp at Myninya waterhole, explore the Boorara Woolshed ruins, drive the Werewilka Creek Circuit, bushwalk at Budjiti Lookout and The Granites, discover a portable steam engine, and visit the Currawinya Woolshed and Bilby display. A 13 Day Epic Adventure exploring Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland.

The Myninya waterhole bush camping area is the remotest campsite in the park, with 4x4 caravans not recommended. Cold showers are provided. Plenty of space to camp quietly.

The Boorara Woolshed ruins are interesting to explore, with various buildings falling into disrepair. Some areas are restricted access for your safety.

Werewilka Creek Circuit is a 4x4 track driving a sandy/claypan area with low lying vegetation. An easy afternoon drive if you have time.

Budjiti Lookout is an easy couple hundred metre walk offering 360 degree views of the surrounding country. Well worth the stop. The Granites are an impressive outcrop unlike anything else you've seen in Currawinya.

The Currawinya Woolshed is one of the best preserved traditional woolsheds I have visited, with everything in situ. A display about the Bilby fence project is out the front explaining the attempts of Parks to reintroduce the Bilby into a fenced off area.

Join me in part 3 for my discoveries of what Currawinya has to offer the outback traveller.

Join the journey as I uncover Currawinya's secrets, in part 2 revealing the relics at Pump Hole bush camping area, then traverse the 53km Beefwood road to Beefwood Hut stockmans camp and arrive at Myninya campgrounds. A 13 Day Epic Adventure exploring Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland.

Pump Hole bush camping area has several pieces of machinery including a stunning portable steam engine and water pump. Pump Hole has plenty of birdlife to admire, including the odd Pelican, and a visit from some feral goats.

The 53km Beefwood road crosses through the park, offering green gardens, stockyards, the simplistic Beefwood Hut stockmans camp with original cast iron oven, and dams to visit. A rocky plataeu reveals a grand view of the park, before again decending into the soft red desert sands.

An Epic 13 Day 4x4 Adventure exploring Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland, Australia. Join the journey as I uncover Currawinya's secrets, in part 1 discovering the Caiwarro homestead ruins, and camp at Corni Paroo Waterhole and Caiwarro Waterhole.

Cairarro ruins have a wealth of relics to uncover, from decades of beer bottles dating back as early as the 1920's, tins, motors, and the remaining homestead structures. Imagine the life of the early Sheep shearers living on this remote station.

Corni Paroo Waterhole has numerous sites to choose from along the banks, with plenty of room to canoe or swim. Plenty of birdlife around in the mornings.

Caiwarro Waterhole offers several epic camp sites and a great bushwalking experience exploring up and down the waterhole edges for wildlife and relics, including the Brolga and Major Mitchell's Cockatoo.

Join me in part 1 for my discoveries of what Currawinya has to offer the outback traveller.
