Ah, the infamous Saturn port of Castlevania - Symphony of the Night. You would think that an updated version of one of the greatest games out there would have been a huge success. After all, the Saturn version of SotN did have some extra content not found in the PS1 or the version packed with the PSP Dracula X Chronicles. New enemies, two new areas, new items and weapons, Richter playable from the start and an extra playable character in Maria Renard. Formula for success, right?

Well...not exactly.

The vanilla version of the Saturn port suffered from added loading times, downgraded graphics and serious slowdown that, despite the added content, made the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night pretty inferior to it's PS1 counterpart. Massive props to the modders who translated and modded this game to make it playable.

Playthrough of the Saturn version of Mega Man 8, which has a few things going for it over it's PS1 counterpart. It has a slightly different soundtrack, a bit of an uptick in graphics with lighting and underwater effects. It also has two extra bosses, Cut Man and Wood Man, that are exclusive to the Saturn version. I've also noticed that there are a few extra enemies throughout the game.

So the next Chrono Trigger installment is going to take a lot longer than I thought thanks to technical issues and real world issues. Luckily, I got some other longplays in the pipeline, starting with one third of the 3 Wonders: Midnight Wanderers.

Longplay of the Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past for the Super NES. I applied a patch to this game to make the items look like their NES counterparts. It also changes Link's hair from pink to dark brown.

With the untimely and tragic passing of Akira Toriyama, I felt that it was only appropriate to do some playthroughs of games he had a hand in. And what better game to kick that off with than the Super NES RPG classic, Chrono Trigger.
