Today I find myself making a loop on the property around my off grid cabin. The weekend before I located some wolf tracks near the river and it turns out he walked right by the game cam I have below the cabin. Many of the predators in my area use the river as a highway in the winter. Turned out to be a very nice, cold and quite day in the forest, I very much enjoyed the hike. Thanks for coming along.

Hello Everyone. Today I am out at the cabin cooking up a little bush meat over the open fire. A friend of mine shared some steaks with me, from a black bear he harvested in September. I finally got around to working up the meat he gave me. I have always found with bear that it can be gamey depending on the age of the animal. The older the bear is the stronger the flavor. It can be a bit off putting, but a little overnight marinade and an open fire transforms that meat into something pretty good. Just because you don't have a conventional oven handy does not mean you can't make bread. All you need is a Dutch oven, bread dough and a good hot campfire, and you can have some great tasting homemade bread. Thanks for watching. The marinade recipe is done below.

Break Steak Marinade for 1 pound of Meat
3/4 cup Lemon Juice
1/2 cup Bourbon
1 cup of Brown Sugar
1 table spoon of Salt
Black or White Pepper to taste
1 teaspoon your favorite hot sauce(I use a cayenne base hot sauce)
Mix it all together in a bag and add your bear steak, or any other meat you would like to try this with. Works great on wild hog or venison too. Make sure your meat is in smaller pieces and place it in the zip lock bag at least overnight. The next day place meat on a hot grill with a cooking fire underneath it and try to slowly render out the bear fat. Make sure you cook it well and get the meat up in temp(at least 160 degrees). I like it in a sandwich with fresh bread baked in a dutch oven.

This is not a payed promotion and I have been very happy with this stock replacement. If you are at all interested go to there website and take a look at what they offer.

Visited the my off grid cabin over last weekend and did a bunch of finish work on it. I also took some recreational time out on the property that was a well needed rest. Painting is not my favorite job at the cabin but it is one that needs to be done. Sealing the deck on the porch also needed to be finished this year before the snow flies. After about three years of working on my cabin and using it for long weekends I decided to install an off grid electrical system. I mostly want electrical power for lights and to run the blower on my wood stove. I can heat things up quickly if I have the little blower running. I use a generator now for power needs but I don't like to hear it running all the time. Solar power should be nice and quiet with battery storage and an inverter. Spring fishing has given me the chance to can some wild fish. For lunch I built a fire and cooked a jar of red sucker with some veggies. Very relaxing time at the cabin.

I don't often do product reviews on my youtube channel, but i wanted to share this with one with everyone. I bought an ozone generator to help clean out the odors in my old jeep and decided to try in my cabin. I was pretty surprised at how good it worked at getting rid of that musty over winter smell. Finally finished putting together the part#2 of So I Built A Cabin. With everything that is going on in the world, hopefully it will be a welcome distraction to you the viewer. If you have any questions or comments about the cabin built, just leave a comment and I will get back to you. All the building videos are in the cabin playlist so check them out.

I spent a couple days of my long weekend at the cabin cleaning things up and getting ready for winter. I tried hunting and the last of the open water fishing but caught nothing. Weather was really nice and I enjoyed my days. Leave a comment and thanks for watching.

I went down to the Wisconsin River to take my last chance at catching some catfish before winter sets in. The river is about thirty minute away from the my cabin but is close to my house. I did alright that night although the temp started heading for freezing. I caught one walleye on chicken breast which I have never had happen before. I made lunch at the cabin the next day and it turned out really good. Any questions or comments leave them below and thanks for watching.

I have been enjoying the woods and the off-grid cabin as much as I can this fall. Spent the day hiking around looking for turkeys and geese. No luck with birds but I manage to find a hen of the woods for lunch with some wild turkey I shot a few days earlier. Thanks for watching.

It has been a long summer and I finally finished building on my cabin. I did not get the bath house built but I did buy tent to use as a shower area for fall camping. The rain drove me in to the cabin to dry off and I talk about what it looks like now that it is done. Thanks for watching.

We had a pleasant January Saturday so I decided to head out to the Cabin to clean up from Christmas. Weather was warm and icy for us and not really nice to be in the woods. I also got to make lunch on the Camp Chef cook stove and oven. It works really well as a cook stove and the oven is not bad either. I do a lo of cooking on the wood stove and outside in the fire pit but it is nice to have another source. Sit back and come along for the ride and thank you for watching.

The rains in the upper mid-west have been unstoppable. The weather has made it very hard to do anything in the woods. To get to my cabin I have to cross a swamp and right now i can only hike in with what is on my back. Hopefully soon it will dry up a bit and i can get on with my summer's projects. I did some repairs and chores even though i can not start the building of my bath house. Thanks for watching. Like subscribe and share.

Cabin Safety is a very important thing to think about and I have done alright so far. As I try to spend more time out at the cabin and I find more things to improve on and safety is a big one. I also ask the question of how to make a nature spring usable for fresh water. If you have any good ideas on developing a spring please leave them in the comments below. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching.

The Ice on the river broke up and missed it, but my hike in shows what it looks like after the high water starts to recede. Spring if starting to show us some good weather and the birds are all singing. I added up most of the costs of building my off grid cabin over the last two years and it cost much less than I thought. Any questions or comments please leave them below and i will get back to you. Like share and subscribe. It all helps out my channel and my hobby.

I managed to snowshoe out to the cabin this weekend. Did not get much work done on the building but checked on the cabin and shoveled snow out of the front and off the porch. The chinking is holding up well and there was no snow inside. I also shot my muzzle loader rifles and cast some lead balls. Had a nice time but the walk out was difficult for sure. Thanks for watching.

Took a hike down river to see if the springs are frozen into icy water falls. It has been cold and snowing but it was a nice for hiking on the ice of the river. Down river on the lake you could here the ATV races and chatted with a fellow traveler on the my walk down stream. Any questions or comments please leave them below. Thanks for watching.

Merry Christmas and Happy new year to you all. Just a quick video from the off grid cabin wishing everyone a happy holiday. I had too run the generator to power all the lights. Special thanks to Sharon and Eric for the Christmas tree that fits right in the tiny off grid cabin.
