On the night of Animania V, Joe Higashi won the Excel Road to Destiny briefcase as the crowd in unison with "Joe's Going to kill you!" chants in Los Angeles. However later that night, Joe would make his transition from a beloved super athlete to a conniving opportunist by trading in and, with help from Excel General Manager Mr. Smith, screwing over a bloody new Excel champion Edward Elric by ending his very short title reign and ending the night as the new Excel World champion.

At the start of the 2020-2021 season on Excel, Joe Higashi made his intentions clear that he is, pound for pound, the best athlete in ACW and CAW today. Joe would strengthen that claim by announces he has sponsored with Mr. Smith's non-profit organization, The Paradigm Foundation. There have been rumors and allegations surrounding the organization, their sponsorship system, and Mr. Smith's involvement but Higashi has not let it stop him from being a World champion that the management of Excel is proud to let represent. However, a storm of caution blew in as Trunks would make his Excel debut and inform Higashi, along with Smith, that he has been named the next contender to the Excel Championship by unanimous decision by the ACW Board of Directors. Along with a strong rumor of an "overseer" coming to watch over the brand, Higashi will look to retain the title at Ground Zero with a dark cloud looming above him and Trunks's determination of becoming World champion in ACW again.
